Shopping For Ink Jet, Laser Printers and Cartridges

Executive Summary By Paul C. Nelson

Ink Jet printers have been around for years. Printer manufacturers know how profitable ink jet cartridges sales are and they want you to keep buying new replacement cartridges. A typical set of print head style ink jet cartridges can cost around $55 and deliver about 400 printed pages at 5% page coverage (if you print photos, that page count goes way down).

Many folks have discovered huge cost savings using the emerging compatible and re-manufactured ink jet industry. Color laser printers can cost a bit more, but at such substantial savings and the fact that laser toner cartridges won’t clog or dry up like ink jet cartridges do, the switch to laser printing is a real no-brainer.

Toner cartridges for laser printers are available in compatible and re-manufactured versions as well. If you must continue using ink jet printers, consider the benefit and savings of purchasing compatible and re-manufactured cartridges and if you’re ready, consider switching to the huge savings of laser printing!

Brother Laser Printer Cartridge

Executive Summary By Amit Salkar

Among the best laser supplies one can get a quality laser drum unit. One has to get specific laser printer cartridges for different models. One can get separate refill toner cartridges also.

A typical Brother laser printer cartridge works this way. If you have the model number HL-700 Cartridge series, it has a drum unit and a separate toner unit. In the drum unit there is OPC drum, drum cleaning sponge roller, a developer and transfer roller, toner supplier roller, doctor blade and corona wire. The toner cartridge is pegged at 22, 000 pages at 5%.

Four types of laser printer toners exist in the market. The second type is known as ‘Compatible (Generic)’ toner cartridge, which is produced in order to equal or excel the OEM toner cartridges.

These are cheaper than OEM cartridges. There are benefits to using toner cartridges in a laser printer. First of all, laser printer toners have the capacity to print thousands of pages, and usually cost less per page compared to inkjet cartridges. The only drawback of laser toner cartridges is that their initial cost is higher.

How to Refill Your Laser Printer Toner Cartridge
Executive Summary By Joe Simpson

Did you know that you could refill your laser printer toner cartridge? Most toner cartridges are manufactured to a very high standard enabling them to be used time and time again. Unfortunately the manufacturers have discovered that people refilling their toner cartridges directly reduces their profits so they now actively discourage the practice.

Until recent years you would find a visible refill cap on your laser printer toner cartridge - open this, pour in some replacement ink and the cartridge was as good as new. Some toner cartridges still have this refill cap but many printer companies have removed it to discourage refilling.

Most kits accomplish this by supplying a small soldering iron with an attachment on the end to create the hole on your laser printer toner cartridge. After doing this you can refill the toner cartridge as often as you like. My first attempt at this was on Lexmark C500 Printer cartridge - I bought a kit (about £10/20$) which contained all I needed to refill my cartridge and bottles of replacement toner ink. When the time was up I placed the end against the laser printer toner cartridge and it made a hole in the side of the cartridge.
