There is an old saying “the customer is always right”. The customer has needs and the provider must satisfy those needs. Many times the client will tell the CCTV camera provider “I need cameras here, here and here”. The client has no knowledge of CCTV cameras he only knows that there are needs that must be satisfied. It is the responsibility of the provider of the CCTV camera installation that those needs be met in the most economical way possible.

A CCTV camera installation can be and often is a complex task. The complexity of the installation of the CCTV cameras and associated equipment can often be mitigated by a series of meetings between both parties. The client in the first meeting will define their needs as to areas of coverage and whether or not they actually need a color camera or a black and white camera in a particular location. The provider must recognize that the client in all probability has no knowledge of CCTV systems and is turning to the provider to provide the solutions to the needs.

The client must in the meetings accurately represent their needs to the provider. The resolution of those needs is the responsibility of the CCTV camera installation provider. The provider will know of optional equipment that will meet the needs of the client. These options should be provided to the client in subsequent meeting to allow the client the ability to make an informed decision as to exactly what equipment will meet his needs in the most economical manner. Some of these options may require additional budget meetings by the client and their staff or management. The CCTV provider should provide for these budgetary considerations with options for alternate equipment.

The provider should not recommend one type of camera for every purpose. Cameras can be of varying resolutions, and either color or black and white. A camera that is strictly used for the surveillance of a particular area could well be a black and white camera with a fixed lens. Another location that required the identity of customers or clerks might necessitate the utilization of a color camera and a lens with an auto iris. When the provider of the CCTV camera system makes his presentation to the client the provider should provide a drawing of the property that the cameras are to be installed at with the cameras and their field of view marked on the drawing. This drawing provides the client visual knowledge of what areas are being covered and any changes can be made prior to installation of the system. The drawing can be provided to the client so that the client can present the drawings to their management for final approval.

Meetings between the client and the provider provide open lines of communication. The open lines of communication give the provider the information necessary to solve the problems of the client. These open lines of communication also provide the client the knowledge that their needs are to be met by the provider. When the project is complete, the finished project should accurately represent what equipment and positions were on the drawing provided to the client. This insures that the provider meets the needs of the client.
